101 MSC Overload

Description

This alarm is generated when the MSC informs the BSC that the MSC is congested through the OVERLOAD message over the A interface.

Attribute

Alarm ID Alarm Severity Alarm Type
101 Minor Fault

Parameters

ID Name Meaning
1 NI

0 = International,1 = Spare international,2 = National,3 = Spare national

2 OPCIdx

Original signaling point's Index of the BSC

3 DPCIdx

Destination signaling point's Index of the overloaded MSC

4 Cause

7=OM interference,35=CCCH overload,36=CPU overload

5 OPC

Original signaling point code of the BSC

6 DPC

Destination signaling point code of the overloaded MSC

7 Alarm Attribute

0=Normal, Alarms period are longer than the Transient Threshold.

1=Transient Count, The times and the period of the alarms whose periods are shorter than the Transient Threshold are summed up. If the sum result is longer than the Alarm Occurrence Period Threshold or Alarm Occurrence Times Threshold, an alarm so called Transient Count Alarm is triggered. Because Transient Count Alarm is based on accumulative result, the recovery of the alarm may occur at least one Summing Cycle later. The Summing Cycle can be query by MML "LST STATSLDWIN".

8 Cause Code

1=OM interference,3=CPU overload

Impact on the System

Some calls are rejected because the MSC enables the flow control function.

System Actions

The MSC enables the flow control function to reject the service requests from MSs. If the BSC already enables the flow control function over the A interface, the BSC controls the access of some services based on the MSC's flow control level indicated in the OVERLOAD message.

Possible Causes

  • 7 = MSC OM intervention
  • 36 = MSC processor overload

Procedure

  1. Contact the MSC maintenance engineer to check the MSC equipment. Handling is not required at the BSC end.
