Open File Dialog Box

Use this dialog box to open an existing file from disk. You can also use this dialog box to open an already opened file using different language encoding options.

To access this dialog box, select Open from the File menu and then choose File.

Look in

Locate the existing project folder from this drop-down menu. Selecting a folder from this list displays the contents of the folder in the primary pane.

History

Displays the files most recently removed from projects.

My Projects

Displays files and folders at the default location.

Desktop

Displays the files and folders located on the desktop.

Favorites

Displays the contents of your Internet Explorer Favorites folder.

Tip   To add a link to your Favorites folder from this dialog box, locate the folder you want to add in the Look in drop-down list box, then select Add to Favorites from the Tools drop-down menu.

File name

Use this option to filter the files and folders that are displayed. Enter a full or partial file name on which to filter. You can use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard.

Tip   Navigate to Web and network locations by entering a URL or network path in the File name box. For example, "http://mywebsite" displays the files available at the "mywebsite" Web location and "\\myserver\myshare" displays the files available at the "myshare" location on "myserver".

Files of type

Use this option to filter the contents of the folder or directory selected in Look in for a particular file type.

Returns folder to the previous location.

Navigates the tree to the next higher folder in the explorer hierarchy.

Opens your browser to the search page set in your browser's options.

Deletes the selected file(s) or folder(s) from your disk.

Displays the New Folder dialog box. Use this option to create a new child folder under the folder selected in the Look in drop-down list.

Use to select one of the different ways in which to arrange and view the contents of the item selected in the Look in drop-down list.

• List   Displays the name of files, folders, and other items in a list format.
• Details   Displays the name, size, type, and modified date of files, folders, and other items in a list format.
• Properties   Displays the name and properties of files, folders, and other items. When selected, divides the content pane in half; the left half displays the item's name and the right half displays the selected item's properties. Some files and folders do not have property information available.
• Preview   Displays a preview of the file. When selected, divides the content pane in half; the left half displaying files and folders and the right half displaying a preview of the selected file. This option is useful when looking for a particular graphic file.
• Arrange Icons   Has the same effect as selecting one of the column headers in Details View to sort by that column. Arrange Icons is useful when arranging items by criteria other than Name (such as Size) in a view other than Details (such as Preview).

Tools

Use to select a tool to apply to the item selected in the contents pane

• Delete   Deletes the selected file or folder from disk.
• Add to Favorites   Adds the file or folder to your Favorites folder. Any favorite you add will appear in your Internet Explorer Favorites.
• Map Network Drive   Displays the Windows Map Network Drive wizard, which allows you to connect to a machine on a network.
• Open from Web Server   Displays the Connect to Web Server dialog box, allowing you to locate and open a project that exists on a Web server.
