Select Scatterplot by... from the Graphs - Graphs of Input Data submenu to plot the values of the currently highlighted variable against the values of another variable. The scatterplot visualizes a relation between two variables X and Y (e.g., weight and height). Individual data points are represented in two-dimensional space, where axes represent the variables. The two coordinates (X and Y) that determine the location of each point correspond to its specific values on the two variables. (See also, Categorized Scatterplots.)
When you select this command, you will be able to choose between a standard
scatterplot (Regular) or a scatterplot
with a linear or polynomial regression line fitted to the data (by default
with a 95% confidence interval). You can also choose to include histograms
or box plots with the regular scatterplot. Once you have made your selection,
the Select
Variable dialog will be displayed, from which you can select the variable
to be plotted against the highlighted variable.
The five types of plots are listed below.
Note that you can produce a matrix of scatterplots (representing the correlations between the variables that you select) when you choose the Matrix Scatterplot option. Many other types of Scatterplots are available via STATISTICA's Graphs menu graphs. For a general overview of the graphics facilities in STATISTICA, see Graphs in STATISTICA.
