Plot: Point Labels

Right-click on a graph point, and select Point Labels to display the Point Labels dialog. You can also access these options via the Graph Options dialog tree view by selecting Point Labels (located under Plot).

These options are used to place labels (either the coordinates of the points or text labels) over individual data points in the graph.

Plot. Although all of the options are the same for each plot, you can make changes to each plot independently of the other. Select here the plot to which you want to make changes. If you have several plots in one graph, you may want to assign names to each plot using the Name option in the General options pane in the Graph Options dialog.

Display point labels. If this box is selected, point labels (shown in the spreadsheet) will be used in the currently specified plot. Note that each label displayed on the plot can be moved and changed from its default position.

Font. Click on this button to bring up the Font dialog from which you can choose a different font (e.g., size, type, etc.) for the point labels.

Connecting line. When a label is moved from its default position, a connecting line is drawn between the point and its label. Click this button to display the Line Properties dialog, in which you can specify various features of the connecting line.

Frame line. When a label is moved from its default position, a frame is placed around the text. Click this button to display the Line Properties dialog, in which you can specify various features of the frame line.

Frame area. When a label is moved from its default position, the area around the label can be shaded. Click this button to display the Area Properties dialog, in which you can specify various features of the frame area.

Properties. The options in this box determine what point labels will be used and the number format that will be used for numeric labels. Note that different options will be displayed in the box according to the type of plot displayed.

Text labels. Select this option to use strings of text for the point labels. By default, the strings of text used will be the numbered cases (e.g., Case 1, Case 2, . . .) in the plot. In the spreadsheet below, you can edit the text labels for the plot so that they are more meaningful. You can choose to show the text labels instead of the X and/or Y coordinates (select exclusively), or in addition to the X and/or Y coordinates (select in addition).

X, Y coordinates; Weight. You can select to display the X coordinates, the Y coordinates or both X and Y coordinates by selecting the appropriate check boxes; select the Weight check box to also use the values of the Case weights as labels for the points. See Spreadsheet Case Weights and Analysis/Graph Case Weights for further details. When displaying numbers, you can specify the value format using the Value Format button (see below).

Counts. Select the Counts check box to display counts for the point labels. You can specify the number format for the counts using the Counts format button (see below).

Percentages.  Select the Percentages check box to display percentages for the point labels. You can specify the number format for the percentages using the Percent format button (see below).

Class names. Select the Class names check box to display class names for the point labels.
