The Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) provides cross-server transaction capabilities: automatic two-phase commit. Normally, the MS DTC service should not affect existing applications, other than the automatic transactional consistency, but it does require some memory and some processing time. The service can be stopped if its features are not required.
