The following procedure describes how to run a load simulation test.
1. Install Load Simulator.
2. Set up your Load Simulator topology.
3. Set up distribution lists (optional).
4. Generate directory import files.
5. Create simulated users by importing them.
6. Configure multiple clients (optional).
7. Set the type of test you want to run.
8. Run the test.
When you configure and run a test, Load Simulator uses the following types of files. You can use these files to customize your test configuration or gather information about tests you have run.
To provide realistic user load, Load Simulator uses messages saved in .msg files. Several sample message files of different sizes and types are provided with Load Simulator. You can also create your own .msg files to have more control of their size and type.
Contains information about the Load Simulator configuration you specify. You can have multiple .sim files, each specifying a different configuration. Each client computer requires a .sim file to run Load Simulator tests. You should save your .sim file frequently.
Contains the output generated by the output window.
Contains status information about a test.
