Restoring Data After a Catastrophe
If a server is catastrophically destroyed, the data must be restored from a backup. For procedures, see the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator's Guide. In addition, note the following:
- You cannot restore the directory to a computer with a different Windows NT domain, or you cannot access the information store. Ensure you add the restored machine to the original Windows NT domain.
- If the Microsoft Exchange Server being restored is a primary domain controller (this may be the case in small remote sites), the security ID on the restored server must match the security ID from the original server. If the security ID on the restored server does not match the original security ID, you cannot access the information store unless you restore only the information store and manually rebuild the Windows NT accounts.
