If Both Computers Have the Same Name

Follow the procedures below if you are moving Microsoft Exchange Server from one computer to another computer that has the same name.

The steps in this section apply if the new Microsoft Exchange Server computer is in:

The same Windows NT domain as the Microsoft Exchange Server computer to be moved; or
A domain that has a two-way trust relationship with the Windows NT domain that contains the Microsoft Exchange Server computer to be moved.

Verifying That a Domain Controller Is Available

Before moving Microsoft Exchange Server to the new computer, verify that the computer to be replaced is not the only Windows NT domain controller in the domain. After this computer is brought down as part of the procedure to move Microsoft Exchange Server, there must another domain controller that can validate Windows NT logon requests.
