Movefold Tool

The Movefold tool enables a user's private folders to be moved to another postoffice. This tool is required when a user is changing physical locations and becomes a member of a new Microsoft Mail postoffice. Note that Movefold will work only with Microsoft Mail 2.1x postoffices and Microsoft Mail 3.0 or 3.2 postoffices that do not have enhanced security enabled. Also, this tool only affects the MS-DOS client's private folders.

When to Use Movefold

You can use this program whenever you want to move a user's folders from one postoffice to another.

Side Effects of Using Movefold

There are no side effects when using Movefold, because this tool performs read-only operations on the Microsoft Mail database files.

To run Movefold

The following table lists the command-line options available in Movefold, and their definitions:

Option

Description

<mailbox>

The user's current mailbox name.

<password>

The user's current password.

<drive>

The drive where the Microsoft Mail database is located.

<exportfile>

The export file name.

<importfile>

The import file name.

Files to Back Up

As with all Microsoft Mail utilities, it is highly recommended that you back up your Microsoft Mail database before running Movefold. You must also make a backup of the folder subdirectory you will be working with.

Also, make sure each Microsoft Mail user moves his or her private folders back to the server by running the MS–DOS Microsoft Mail client and selecting Options, Folders, Private-Storage, Server. Do not proceed until all private folders have been moved back to the file server postoffice.

Because the Movefold tool must use the user's password, you may have to start the Microsoft Mail Administrator program and use the Local-Admin, Recover commands to recover all of the passwords back to the global default password.

Note The Movefold tool must be run from a drive where there is enough disk space to store all of an individual's private folders. All the parameters of the Movefold tool must be used to guarantee its performance.

Examples of Moving Folders

To move the folders of a user named Chris

Type the following at the command prompt to export the folders from Chris's user account on the postoffice on drive M to the Chrfold.arc file:

movefold chris -ppassword -dm -echrfold.arc

Type the following at the command prompt to import the Chrfold.arc file into Chris's user account on drive N:

movefold chris -ppassword -dn -ichrfold.arc.

If the destination postoffice is not currently available, the Movefold import command can be run at a different time.
