About the Guide Database Schema

Broadcast Architecture uses a Microsoft® Jet database to contain the Guide database. It does so to take advantage of a widely accepted database format that is easily programmed from various development tools, including the Microsoft® Visual C++® development system and the Microsoft® Visual Basic® development system. The Jet database engine:

• Provides a high-level interface, called Data Access Objects (DAO), supported by various versions of Visual Basic and Visual C++.
• Supports Structured Query Language (SQL) for easy definition of complex queries.
• Is an Automation server.
