HTML Editor Options (HTML — Options Dialog Box)

   

Allows you to set preferences for working with HTML and ASP pages in the HTML Editor.

Caution   Clicking Cancel cancels all changes made in this dialog box. If you made changes to more than one category, none of the changes will be saved.

Options

Initial view

Start HTML pages in

Source Automatically opens all .htm files in Source View, HTML Editor.

Design Automatically opens all .htm files in Design View, HTML Editor.

Start Active Server pages in

Source Automatically opens all .asp files in Source view.

Design Automatically opens all .asp files in Design view.

Grid

Snap to grid

Automatically positions the outer edges of HTML elements by horizontal and vertical increments when you move the element using the arrow keys or mouse.

Horizontal spacing

Indicates the pixel spacing for the x-axis of the grid.

Vertical spacing

Indicates the pixel spacing for the y-axis of the grid.

Note   Grid settings are applied the next time you open a document. They will not take effect in a document that is already open.

Source view display

View controls

Graphical Displays Java applets, design-time controls, ActiveX controls, and other objects as the object would appear on the page in the browser. You can also interact with some objects, such as design-time controls, using the keyboard or mouse.

Text Displays Java applets, design-time controls, ActiveX controls, and other objects as HTML text on a page.

Warning   If you edit the text for an object, the object may not work properly.

Script event handlers

Auto popup statement completion

Displays statement completion automatically when you drag an event onto a page from the Script Outline window.

Design view display

Details

Indicates that HTML elements such as unknown elements, script blocks, and comments will display in Design view as special graphics. A special graphic will appear for the beginning tags of each element.

For unknown elements, a graphic for both the beginning and ending tag appears.

Borders

Indicates that elements with borders set to zero (0), such as tables and some divisions, or DIVs, will display in Design view with a border of one (1).
