Although the Jet database engine was introduced with Microsoft Access 1.0, it quickly was adopted as the database engine for other applications and is now used by Visual Basic, Visual C++, Microsoft Visual J++, and all of the Office 97 applications.
Although Microsoft Jet doesn’t recognize any application-specific objects, applications that use Microsoft Jet can dynamically add application-specific information to the database engine through application-defined properties.
