Creating a Report Using RPTDRIV

RPTDRIV logs onto the messaging system as a gateway. This allows mail messages to be sent to RPTDRIV as if it were a gateway that the messages passed through. RPTDRIV reads each message, generates a report, and sends the report to the message originator.

To run RPTDRIV, a sample gateway must be installed. For installation information, see Sample Gateway and Applications.

To create a report with RPTDRIV
  1. Create a custom recipient with address type similar to the foreign system of the gateway. From the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program, select New Custom Recipient from the File menu. Type in the display name and the address type of the custom recipient. Verify that the custom recipient appears in the Recipients container.
  2. Type the following line at a command prompt:

    RPTDRIV NOTSERV <gateway-name>

RPTDRIV is set up to intercept each message you send over the gateway, and read the subject line of the message to determine which type of report to return to the originator.

  3. Log on to a mailbox on the client.
  4. Submit a message to the custom recipient with subject line as described in the following table. A report of that type will be returned to you.

Note The subject must exactly match one of the choices shown in the following table for the report to be generated.
