Document Conventions

This reference uses the following typographical conventions.

Convention Description
monospaced text
Examples and program code appear in a nonproportional typeface.
Bold text Bold text indicates literal expressions that must be typed exactly as shown, such as function names, structure names, and keywords.
Italic text Italic text indicates variable expressions, such as parameters, where you fill in the actual value.
CAPITAL LETTERS Filenames, directory names, paths, function flags, and error messages appear in capital letters.
( ) In syntax statements, parentheses enclose one or more parameters that you pass to a function.
[ ] Brackets enclose optional syntax items. Type only the syntax within the brackets, not the brackets themselves.
