Using Hyperlinks and Bookmarks
Here are some commonly used FrontPage hyperlink and bookmark procedures. For the full set of FrontPage hyperlink procedures, see “Creating and Using Hyperlinks and Bookmarks” in the Contents tab of the Microsoft FrontPage online Help system.
Û To Create a Text Hyperlink to a Page or File in the Current FrontPage Web

In the FrontPage Editor, select text that will identify the hyperlink.

On the Insert menu choose Hyperlink, or click the Create or Edit Hyperlink button.

In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, click a page or file to make it the target of the hyperlink. To browse the contents of a folder, double-click it.

To link to a bookmark on the page you selected, type the name of the bookmark in the Bookmark field. You can create a hyperlink to a bookmark on an open page by first selecting the page and then choosing its bookmark from the list in the Create Hyperlink dialog box.

If you want the page that is the target of the hyperlink to appear in a frame in a frameset, select the frame in the Target Frame field.

Click OK.
Û To Create a Text Hyperlink to a New Page
You can create a text hyperlink to a new page. FrontPage first creates the new page and then creates a hyperlink to it.

In the FrontPage Editor, select text that will identify the hyperlink.

On the Insert menu choose Hyperlink, or click the Create or Edit Hyperlink button.

In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, if you want the page that is the target of the hyperlink to appear in a frame in a frameset, select the frame in the Target Frame field.

Click the New Page button.

In the Page tab of the New dialog box, select the template to use to create the new page.

To create the new page and add a task to the FrontPage Explorer’s Tasks view reminding you to finish the page later, click Just add web task.

Click OK.
Û To Create a Text Hyperlink to a Page on the World Wide Web

In the FrontPage Editor, select text that will identify the hyperlink.

On the Insert menu choose Hyperlink, or click the Create or Edit Hyperlink button.

In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, click the World Wide Web button.
Your Web browser will be displayed.

In your Web browser, go to the page or file that you want to be the target of your hyperlink, and type ALT+TAB to return to the FrontPage Editor.
The location of the page you visited will be in the URL field.

If you want the page that is the target of the hyperlink to appear in a frame in a frameset, select the frame in the Target Frame field.

Click OK.
Û To Create a Text Hyperlink from the FrontPage Explorer
You can create a text hyperlink from an open page in the FrontPage Editor to another page in your FrontPage web using the FrontPage Explorer.

In the FrontPage Explorer, in the Folders, All Files, Navigation, or Hyperlinks view, select the page or file to which you want to create a hyperlink by clicking and holding the left mouse button.

Drag the page or file from the FrontPage Explorer to the FrontPage Editor.
If the FrontPage Editor is minimized, drag over the FrontPage Editor tile in the Windows task bar, pause for a moment, and the FrontPage Editor will be activated.

Move the pointer to the line at which you want to create the hyperlink and release the left mouse button.
FrontPage creates a hyperlink to the page or file.
Û To Follow a Text Hyperlink Forward

Hold down CTRL and click on the hyperlink, or click in the hyperlink and choose Follow Hyperlink from the shortcut menu.
The FrontPage Editor opens the target page for editing and makes it the active page. If the hyperlink points to a bookmark, the FrontPage Editor will jump to that bookmark.
If the target page is not in the current FrontPage web, FrontPage opens a copy of the page. You can save the page, including all images and other objects on the page, to the current FrontPage web or to a file.
Û To Change a Text Hyperlink

In the FrontPage Editor, place the pointer anywhere in the text containing the hyperlink or select any part of the hyperlink.

To change the text of the hyperlink, edit it in place.

To change the target of the hyperlink, on the Edit menu choose Hyperlink, or click the Create or Edit Hyperlink button.

Edit the hyperlink in the Edit Hyperlink dialog box.
Û To Create a Bookmark

In the FrontPage Editor, optionally select one or more characters of text.

On the Edit menu, choose Bookmark.

In the Bookmark Name field, enter the name of the bookmark, or accept the name that FrontPage suggests. You can include spaces in the bookmark name.

Click OK.
Û To Visit a Bookmark
You can visit a bookmark on the current page without creating a hyperlink to it. You can visit a bookmark on another page only if there is a hyperlink to that bookmark from the current page.

To visit a bookmark on the current page, in the FrontPage Editor’s Edit menu, choose Bookmark.

In the Other Bookmarks on this Page field, select the bookmark to visit.

Click Goto.
The FrontPage Editor displays the page at the bookmark that you selected.

Close the Bookmark dialog box by clicking OK or Cancel.
To visit a bookmark on another page, in the FrontPage Editor, place the pointer anywhere in a hyperlink to a bookmark and choose Follow Hyperlink on the shortcut menu. The FrontPage Editor displays the new page at the bookmark.
Û To Check the Status of Hyperlinks

In the FrontPage Explorer’s View menu, choose Hyperlink Status.
The Hyperlink Status view becomes active and the status of each hyperlink is displayed:

OK indicates that the hyperlink is good.

Broken indicates that the hyperlink is bad.

Unknown indicates that the hyperlink is external and has not been verified yet. To verify the hyperlink, select it, and choose Verify on the shortcut menu.

Added task indicates that the hyperlink is either broken or has not been verified yet, and a related task has been added to the list in the Tasks view.
Û To Verify External Hyperlinks
An external hyperlink is a hyperlink to a page or file outside the current FrontPage web. To verify external hyperlinks:

In the FrontPage Explorer’s View menu, choose Hyperlink Status.

To select a set of hyperlinks to verify, use CTRL+CLICK (for non-adjacent hyperlinks) or SHIFT+CLICK (to select a range of hyperlinks).

In the FrontPage Explorer’s Tools menu, choose Verify Hyperlinks.

Click Verify selected hyperlinks or Verify all hyperlinks.
Each hyperlink is verified in sequence. The status of each hyperlink is displayed in the Hyperlink Status view:

OK indicates that the hyperlink has been checked and is good.

Broken indicates that the hyperlink has been checked and is bad.
-
Verifying indicates that the hyperlink is currently being verified.

Added task indicates that the hyperlink is either broken or has not been checked yet, and a related task has been added to the list in the Tasks view.

To stop verifying hyperlinks, click the Stop button on the FrontPage Explorer’s toolbar. Then, to continue verifying hyperlinks, in the Tools menu, choose Verify Hyperlinks and choose Resume verification.
Note that you can also check the status of internal hyperlinks, which are verified automatically, in the Hyperlink Status view.
