Using Frames Pages and Frames

Here are some commonly used FrontPage frames page and frame procedures. For the full set of FrontPage frames procedures, see “Creating and Using Frames” in the Contents tab of the Microsoft FrontPage online Help system.

Û To Create a Frames Page

  1. In the FrontPage Editor, choose New on the File menu.

  2. In the New dialog box, in the Frames tab, select a frames template.

    The template is displayed in the Preview field, and a description of the template is displayed in the Description field.

  3. Click OK.

The frames page is created and opened.

Û To Specify the Initial Page of a Frame

Û To Open a Page in a Frame

  1. In the FrontPage Editor, with a frames page open, choose Open on the File menu.

  2. In the Open dialog box, select the page or file that you want to open.

  3. Click Open in current frame.

  4. Click OK.

Û To Create a Hyperlink to Display a Page in Another Frame

  1. In the FrontPage Editor, choose Hyperlink on the Insert menu.

  2. In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, select the page or file that you want to link to.

    FrontPage displays the current page’s default target frame in the Target Frame field of the Create Hyperlink dialog box.

    Note Steps 4 through 6 describe how you can change the target frame for a hyperlink. Go to step 7 if you want to use the page’s default target frame.

  3. To change the target frame for the hyperlink, click the Modify button in the Create Hyperlink dialog box.

    FrontPage displays the Target Frame dialog box.

  4. The FrontPage Editor creates a “map” of the frames page that you can use to select a new target frame. This map is displayed in the Current Frames Page field. To assign the target frame of a hyperlink, click the frame in this map.

    When you click a frame, its name is displayed in the Target Setting field.

  5. To make the target frame you selected the default target frame for the current page, click Make default for hyperlinks on this page.

  6. After selecting the target frame, click OK.

  7. In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, click OK to create the hyperlink to the target frame.

  1. With a frames page open in the FrontPage Editor, choose Frames Page Properties on the Frame menu.

  2. In the Frames tab of the Frames Page Properties dialog box, click Show Borders.

    Borders between frames will be shown when the frames page is displayed in a Web browser.

Û To Adjust the Spacing Between Frames

  1. With a frames page open in the FrontPage Editor, choose Frames Page Properties on the Frame menu.

  2. In the Frames tab of the Frames Page Properties dialog box, enter a value in the Frames Spacing field.

This specifies the amount of padding, in pixels, between frames when the frames page is displayed in a Web browser. The default for most Web browsers is 2 pixels.
