ACC: Unable to Open Directory in Open Database Dialog Box

Last reviewed: May 28, 1997
Article ID: Q113927
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0

SYMPTOMS

In the Open Database dialog box, you cannot open a directory by double- clicking the directory name, or by selecting the directory name and then pressing ENTER. Using File Manager, you can open the directory and see the files contained in it.

CAUSE

You are using Microsoft Windows NT and the NTFS file system, and you have set the directory permissions to Read-Only. Note that in Microsoft Windows NT, you can set separate file and directory permissions. These permissions are also separate from the Share permissions.

RESOLUTION

Set the directory permissions for the appropriate directories to Read Execute (RX). You will then be able to open the directories in the Microsoft Access Open Database dialog box by double-clicking the directory name, or by selecting the directory name and then pressing ENTER.
