ACC2: "CREATE INDEX (SQL)" Help Topic Misleading

Last reviewed: May 8, 1997
Article ID: Q132000
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

A paragraph in the "Remarks" section of the "CREATE INDEX statement(SQL)" topic in the Microsoft Access Help system reads as follows:

You can use CREATE INDEX to create a fake index on an attached table.
To create such an index, you don't need permission or access to the
remote server, and the remote database will be unaware of and unaffected
by the index. You use the same syntax for attached and native tables.

RESOLUTION

This paragraph is misleading. You can use the CREATE INDEX statement to create a fake index on an attached SQL data source table only. You cannot create a fake index on an attached Microsoft Access, Paradox, FoxPro, dBASE, or Btrieve table.
