ACC95: "No Current Record" Running Access Wizard in Windows NT

SYMPTOMS

When you run any of the wizards in Microsoft Access version 7.0 installed on Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.51 or 4.0, you may receive the following error message:

   No Current Record

CAUSE

You logged on to the Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 Workstation as a user who is not a member of the Administrators Group.

RESOLUTION

You can use one of the following methods to workaround this problem.

Method 1

Add the user(s) to the local Administrators group.

Method 2

Grant the user(s) or a group that the user(s) belong to full Control Permissions for the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Access\7.0\Wizards

NOTE: To Start the Registry Editor program, run Regedt32.exe on Microsoft Windows NT.

NOTE: To automate the process of updating the Registry on Microsoft Windows NT, you can use Regini.exe. This utility comes with the Microsoft Windows NT Resource Kit. For instructions, please refer to the accompanying file, Regini.doc.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access version 7.0. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access 97.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a User on a Windows NT Workstation who is a member of the local Users group only.

  2. Log off, and then log back on as the User created in step 1.

  3. Start Microsoft Access 7.0 and open the sample database Northwind.mdb.

  4. Create a new report based on the Customers table by using the AutoReport: Tabular Wizard.

  5. Click OK. Note that you receive the error message described in the SYMPTOMS section.
