The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, if the Help Tool is used and one of the horizontal dividing lines is selected in a document Control Menu, the following message will be displayed:

   Help topic does not exist

This message is displayed twice after Microsoft Excel Help runs.

MORE INFORMATION

In various menus in Microsoft Excel, horizontal dividing lines separate groups of menu items in a drop-down list. In most cases, if you try to select (or accidentally select) one of these dividing lines with the Help Tool, no action is taken.

However, if one of these dividing lines in the document Control Menu is selected with the Help Tool, Microsoft Excel Help runs, followed by two "Help topic does not exist" messages. The Help Tool appears to be able to trap or ignore these dividing lines in other cases, but not on the document Control Menu.
