SUMMARY

Although you can create and recalculate a Microsoft Excel 4.0 crosstab table in version 5.0, you will get the best results if you convert your crosstab table to a PivotTable. To do this, follow the steps in the "Converting a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 crosstab table to a pivot table" topic. To view this topic, choose the Search button in Microsoft Excel Help and type the following:

To use the Crosstab command to create a Microsoft Excel 4.0 crosstab table in Microsoft Excel 5.0, you need to ensure that certain supporting files are in the appropriate directories and then turn on the Use Microsoft Excel 4.0 Menus option in version 5.0.

NOTE: These steps cannot be used in later versions of Microsoft Excel, such as Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0, Microsoft Excel 97, or Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

Using the Crosstab Command in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for the Macintosh

  1. If you installed Microsoft Excel 5.0 in the same folder as Microsoft Excel 4.0, use the Finder to ensure that the files Crossfnc.xla, Crosstab, and Crosstab Temp are located in the Crosstab folder of the Macro Library folder. The Macro Library folder is located in the folder in which you installed Microsoft Excel.

    -or-

If you installed Microsoft Excel 5.0 in a separate folder, copy the files Crossfnc.xla, Crosstab, and Crosstab Temp from your version 4.0 Crosstab folder to the Crosstab folder in your version 5.0 Macro Library folder.

NOTE: If the Crosstab folder does not exist in your version 5.0 Macro Library folder, you can copy the entire version 4.0 Crosstab folder to the version 5.0 Macro Library folder.
