"No Such Table..." If Extended Character in Table Name

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query, when you add a field from a table to the data pane to create a query, you receive the following error message if the name of the table you are using contains an extended character: 

   No such table or object.
   Unable to open table: <tablename>
Note that in Microsoft Query, you can create a table with a table name that contains an extended character without receiving an error message.

WORKAROUND

To avoid receiving this error message, when you create a table, do not use an extended character in your table name.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

If you define a field in a table, and you give the field a name that contains an extended character, the extended character is displayed as an underscore (_) when you use the table that contains this field in Microsoft Query. However, you do not receive an error message, and you can successfully create a query when you use a field name that contains an extended character.
