XL5: Hidden Column/Row Not Saved in Text or CSV File Format

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q118600
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you hide a column or row in your worksheet, and you then save the file to the Text or CSV file format, the hidden column or row is not saved.

Note also that in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, hidden columns and rows on a worksheet are saved when you save the file to the Text and CSV file format. However, the text in the hidden column or row is not saved.

WORKAROUND

To save data in hidden rows or columns on a worksheet to the Text or CSV file format, unhide any rows or columns that contain data that you want to save before you save the file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0c.
