XL97: Problems Importing Files from Quattro Pro 7.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, when you open a file that appears to be a Microsoft Excel 5.0 file, you may receive the following error message:

   Out of memory

Note that the error is more likely to occur if you are working with a workbook that contains a large number of objects, and you attempt to format or copy the objects.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • In Quattro Pro for Windows, version 7.0, you create, and then save a file in the Microsoft Excel 5.0 format.

        -and-
    
  • You open the file in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows.

A file that you save from Quattro Pro for Windows, version 7.0, in the Microsoft Excel 5.0 format may not work correctly when you open it Microsoft Excel 97.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the following steps:

  1. Open the original Quattro Pro for Windows, version 7.0 (WB2) file in Quattro Pro for Windows, version 7.0.

  2. Click ply A, and then save the ply in the DIF format.

  3. Repeat step 2 for each ply in the WB2 file.

STATUS

This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows and Quattro Pro for Windows, version 7.0.
