XL97: Black and White Printer Prints Colored Lines as Grayscale

SYMPTOMS

When you print a worksheet that contains a colored line to a black and white printer, the line may be printed as a gray pattern; in earlier versions of Excel the line is printed as a black line.

CAUSE

Excel 97 prints colored lines as grayscale lines to distinguish between black lines and colored lines.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, do either of the following:

  • Use black lines.

        -or-
    
  • Click Black And White in the Page Setup dialog box. To do this, click Page Setup on the File menu and click the Sheet tab. Select the Black And White check box and click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 97.
