SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, when you choose Fill Down from the Edit menu, formulas containing relative references update based on the new cells that the formula appears in. For example, if cell B1 contains the formula =A1*10, cell B2 will contain the formula =A2*10 if Fill Down is used to copy the formula into that cell.

To copy the exact formula from the cell above, do the following:

  1. Select the cell that that the formula is to appear in.

  2. Press COMMAND+'(apostrophe). This key sequence copies the formula from the cell directly above and pastes it into the formula bar.

  3. Press RETURN or ENTER to enter the formula in the active cell.
