SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, after you choose one of the Fill commands (Fill Down, Fill Right) from the Edit menu to copy formulas down a column or across a row, the values will not change to reflect the calculations for the following reasons:

  1. Automatic Calculation has been turned off. To calculate the values, do one of the following:

    a. Turn on automatic calculation by choosing Calculation from the

          Options menu and selecting Automatic.

          -or-

    b. Manually calculate the document by choosing Calculate Now from

          the Options menu.

  2. The formula that has been filled contains absolute references rather than relative references. For example, the formula =$A$1+$B$1 contains absolute references; therefore, this exact formula will appear in any cell into which it is filled without updating the references. However, the formula =A1+B1 will fill correctly.

  3. The sheet where the Fill Down operation was performed is a macro sheet. Macro sheets do not update the values of formulas until the macro containing the formulas is run.
