Excel Err Msg: Input Range Errors when Using Analysis Tools

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, you may receive one of the following error messages when using the analysis tools provided in the Analysis ToolPak:

   You must specify a valid contiguous input range.

   -or-

   You must specify a valid contiguous input range for variable 1.

This error occurs with all of the Analysis ToolPak functions if your worksheet name contains an apostrophe or the hyphen symbol. To resolve the problem, save the worksheet as a new name without using any apostrophes or hypens.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0, and Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0.
