XFOR: RFC822 Header Includes BCC Recipients Fields

Last reviewed: April 7, 1997

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server, version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Internet Mail Service for Windows 95 and Windows NT Server improperly sends the BCC recipients information in the RFC-822 header of the mail message. This causes all recipients of the message to see who was BCC'd on the mail message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):

MORE INFORMATION

RFC-822 states the following about the BCC field:

This field contains the identity of additional recipients of the
message. The contents of this field are not included in copies of the
message sent to the primary and secondary recipients.
