PRB: Cannot Remove Table from Catalog Manager

Last reviewed: April 30, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, version 2.6
  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, version 2.6

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to remove a table from a catalog, the following error message appears:

Other files in this catalog are based on Table <table name>. You must
remove related screens, reports and labels from the catalog before
   removing this file.

CAUSE

When a screen, report, or label is modified from within the Catalog Manager, the Catalog Manager will open the table on which the screen, report, or label is based and then invoke the appropriate design tool.

Certain information about the table (its location and physical filename) is stored internally within the catalog file (.FPC). If the table could be removed from the catalog, attempting to modify a screen report or label based on this table from within the catalog would cause an error. The above error is designed to prevent such a situation.

STATUS

This behavior is by design. However, this feature is under review and will be considered for revision in a future release.
