- Microsoft FoxPro for Macintosh, version 2.5b

SUMMARY

If you choose New from the File menu in order to create a table, you will be able to save the table with a standard Macintosh long filename; however, in certain areas of FoxPro for the Macintosh, this name will be truncated.

MORE INFORMATION

When a table with a name longer than 10 characters is used in FoxPro for Macintosh, the name of that table will be truncated in some instances, such as when a table is created using the File menu or the CREATE TABLE command. This behavior occurs because FoxPro for Macintosh displays the alias for the table, not the table name, and the alias is limited to 10 characters.

For example, if a table is created with the command CREATE TABLE "This is my table" (field1 C(10)), the alias name will be "This_is_my". These same results can be achieved by choosing New from the File menu. This behavior only affects commands that use a file's alias name.
