BUG: Keyboard Shortcuts for Menu Items Don't Appear or Work

Last reviewed: June 27, 1995
Article ID: Q118788
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5x 2.6
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Macintosh, versions 2.5b, 2.5c

SYMPTOMS

Keyboard shortcuts for FoxPro menu items disappear from the menu where they previously had been, and the shortcut key seems to work only intermittently when it is pressed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a quick menu.

  2. On the File menu, add CTRL+W as the shortcut key for the Close menu option.

  3. Generate the menu.

  4. Browse any database.

  5. Run (DO) the menu (.MPR) that you just created.

  6. Open the File menu; note that you can see the CTRL+W shortcut next to the menu option. If you press CTRL+W, it will also work at this point.

  7. In the Browse window, place the cursor in the second or next field from the left and press SHIFT+TAB (to move back one field).

  8. Reopen the File menu; note that CTRL+W no longer appears as a shortcut for the Close menu option.

The CTRL+W shortcut will only return if the .MPR file is run again.

NOTE: CTRL+W is used as just one example to demonstrate this behavior. This behavior will occur with a variety of shortcut keys.
