PRB: Window Titled "Console" Appears When Running Setup Wizard

Last reviewed: May 16, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for Macintosh, version 2.6a

SYMPTOMS

When running the Setup Wizard (SETUP.APP) in FoxPro for Macintosh, a window with a title of "Console" appears. It is normally white in color. The menus change to File and Edit. The Application menu on the Macintosh has "Hide Compress" as the first item on it. If you choose Quit from the File menu (the only option), the following error message appears:

   Unexpected error: File not found.

If you choose the Continue button, the Setup Wizard quits and the disk images are not made. The Compress folder is usually not complete either.

CAUSE

This is caused by including one or more of the compressed files from the DK Setup folder in the application folder prior to running the Setup Wizard.

The DK Setup folder is found inside the FoxPro folder. It is installed when the Distribution Kit included in the Professional version of FoxPro version 2.6a for Macintosh is installed.

WORKAROUND

Use either of the following two workarounds. However, please note that the first method is the best one:

  • Use the check box options in Step 4 of the Setup Wizard. These options are Graphical Help, OLE, and Quicktime Support. By checking these boxes, you tell the Setup Wizard to include the appropriate compressed files from the DK Setup folder in the compressed files and disk images.

    -or-

  • Include uncompressed copies of the appropriate files in the application folder.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
