PRB: LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW Keys Don't Work on Wyse 50

Last reviewed: June 23, 1995
Article ID: Q131756
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FoxPro for UNIX, version 2.6

SYMPTOMS

The LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys do not work correctly on a Wyse 50 terminal or a terminal that emulates a Wyse 50 terminal. If you press the LEFT ARROW key, a character is deleted. If you press the RIGHT ARROW key, a pound sign (#) is inserted.

The Wyse 50 terminal is manufactured by Wyse Technology, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.

CAUSE

Keystroke remapping does not occur on the Wyse 50 terminal as it does on other terminals.

WORKAROUND

Use either of the following methods to work around this problem:

  • Use the ON KEY LABEL command to enable the F11 and F12 function keys to send LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keystrokes. For example, type the following in the Command window:

ON KEY LABEL F11 KEYBOARD '{LEFTARROW}'
ON KEY LABEL F12 KEYBOARD '{RIGHTARROW}'

After these commands are issued, when you press the F11 function key, the insertion point moves one character to the left, and when you press the F12 function key, the insertion point moves one character to the right.

    -or-

  • Upgrade the terminal. This problem does not occur on the Wyse 50+ or Wyse 60 terminals.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Use a Wyse 50 or other terminal that can emulate a Wyse 50 terminal.

  2. With TERM equal to wy50, start FoxPro for UNIX.

  3. Type some text. Press the LEFT ARROW key. Note that the leftmost character is deleted. Press the RIGHT ARROW key. Note that a pound sign (#) is displayed.
