The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.02 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.02 for Windows NT 4.0

SUMMARY

Microsoft has released an add-on for Internet Explorer 3.02 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 that you can use with Internet Explorer to upload files to a site on the Internet from a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) form.

MORE INFORMATION

The ability to upload files using an HTML form is possible under the Request For Comments (RFC) 1867 specification (Form-Based File Upload in HTML). Internet Explorer 3.02 does not support the RFC 1867 specification unless the add-on described in this article is installed. If the add-on is not installed, you can use the <INPUT TYPE=TEXT> tag to upload text to an Internet site from an HTML form, but you cannot use the <INPUT TYPE=FILE> tag to upload files.

If you attempt to create a Web page that uploads files to an Internet site from an HTML form, the page may be displayed properly when the add-on is not installed, but it does not function properly when you attempt to upload files. Note that a Browse button is displayed next to the text box associated with the <INPUT TYPE=FILE> tag when the add-on is installed.
