PRB: Content of Frameset is Not Displayed

Last reviewed: October 3, 1997
Article ID: Q165022
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Programming), version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

Internet Explorer 4.0 does not display the contents of individual frames on a page that includes a <FRAMESET> tag. The page displayed its content as expected in Internet Explorer 3.01.

CAUSE

Internet Explorer 4.0 does not support the embedding of framesets within the <BODY> tag of an HTML page. Internet Explorer 3.0x did not enforce this restriction.

RESOLUTION

Move all <FRAMESET> tags and associated <FRAME> tags outside the scope of the <BODY> tag.

STATUS

To more closely achieve compatibility with Netscape Navigator this behavior is by design.
