PRB: Problems Using "B" Related Functions in VBScript

SYMPTOMS

Internet Explorer may fail when running script written in Visual Basic Scripting Edition that includes a byte ("B") type function.

CAUSE

The following byte ("B") related functions in the Visual Basic Scripting Edition are not supported in Internet Explorer 4.0 for Unix on Sun Solaris:

  • ChrB
  • LeftB
  • RightB
  • MidB

If you use these functions in a Web page, you get the following scripting error (as long as the script error dialog box has not been disabled):

   Type Mismatch <FunctionName>

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
