The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit, version 4.0

SUMMARY

When you use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit wizard to customize Internet Explorer Favorites and QuickLinks, if you include ".url" at the end of the name, the ".url" is removed when you tab away from the name field.

MORE INFORMATION

The filename extension .url is associated with the file type Internet Shortcut. When you name a Favorite or QuickLink in IEAK, the wizard configures Active Setup to create a file with that name plus a .url extension. When you type .url at the end of the name, you are including the extension the wizard uses anyway; therefore, the wizard removes it from the field
