SUMMARY

An unrecoverable application error (UAE) occurs if you attempt to activate the Microsoft Word for Windows version 2.0 Equation Editor by double-clicking an equation that is located in the header or footer of a converted Word for Windows version 1.x document.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use the Word for Windows version 2.0 Equation Editor to edit equations created with the EQ field in Word for Windows version 1.x documents; however, if the equation is located in the header or footer of a version 1.x document, a UAE occurs in Word for Windows 2.0 if you double-click the equation to activate Equation Editor.

To edit a converted version 1.x equation that is located in a header or footer, use the following steps:

  1. From the View menu, choose Header/Footer. Select the location of the equation (Header or Footer), and choose the OK button.

  2. Select the equation. From the Edit menu, choose Cut (or press CTRL+X).

  3. From the Insert menu, choose Object. Select Equation, and choose the OK button.

  4. From the Equation Editor Edit menu, choose Paste (or press CTRL+V).

  5. Make the appropriate editing changes. From the File menu, choose Exit and Return to Document to embed the Equation Editor object.

Now you can double-click the equation without experiencing an unrecoverable application error.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows version 2.0. This problem was corrected in version 2.0a of word for Windows.
