Draw: Banded Bitmaps Do Not Rotate Correctly

SUMMARY

If you rotate a bitmap file (TIFF, BMP, PCX, or DIB) that is banded in Microsoft Draw version 1.0, it rotates incorrectly.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Import a banded bitmap from the Clipboard into Microsoft Draw.

  2. Select the bitmap, and choose the Rotate-Left command. Draw compresses the bands of the bitmap into a single band height.

  3. Choose the Rotate-Left command again. The bitmap displays all its bands reversed. (The top band appears on the bottom, and the bands progress to the bottom band, which displays on the top.)

  4. Choose the Rotate-Left command again. Draw again compresses the bands of the bitmap into a single band height.

  5. Choose the Rotate-Left command one more time to restore the original bitmap layout. Some gaps may appear between the bands because rounding errors can occur during multiple rotations.

MORE INFORMATION

The filters that ship with Microsoft Draw version 1.0 do not produce banded bitmaps; however, you can get banded bitmaps from other sources (such as the Macintosh), and the bands do rotate as individual objects.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Draw version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
