PC Win: Message Subject Over 40 Characters Not Displayed

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mail for Windows, versions 3.2, 3.2a, and 3.5

SYMPTOMS

When you display messages in Microsoft Mail for Windows, the Subject: line may be truncated at 40 characters. This will occur with messages stored in shared folders when the message subject is greater than 40 characters. When you open the message, it will display the entire message subject.

WORKAROUND

The entire subject for the message can be displayed in one of the two following methods:

  • Open the message and examine the correct subject.

-or-
  • Move the message to a private folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in versions 3.2, 3.2a, and 3.5 of Microsoft Mail for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
