PC DirSync: Imports with Template Information Take Long Time

  • Microsoft Mail for PC Networks, versions 3.2 and 3.5

SYMPTOMS

Import operations that involve template information can take an excessive amount of time.

CAUSE

When the Import process merges new template information with older information, excessive file opens and closes occur. This increases import times for these extra network operations. The impact of these opens and closes will vary with the network operating system in use, and the extent to which the network client will cache file opens and closes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in version 3.2.8 through 3.2.19 of the Import program (IMPORT.EXE). A fix for this problem is in development, but has not been regression-tested and may be destabilizing in production environments.

Contact Microsoft Product Support Services for more information on the availability of this fix.
