Proxy Logs Sometimes Do Not Show Client's IP Address

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Proxy Server, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

If you look at the log file for the Web Proxy server, some connections to the Internet do not have client IP addresses associated with them.

CAUSE

This problem occurs for all pages retrieved by the Proxy Server's Active Caching routine. Because the Active Cache makes connections to the Internet by itself (to update its cache), a "client" is not hitting the page, so the entry does not contain an IP address.

STATUS

This is by design of the Proxy Server.
