The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Proxy Server version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you select (enable) packet filtering or when you add an IP address to a persistent filter that does not have a valid route, you may get a blue screen error.

CAUSE

There are two possible causes:

  • No default gateway has been defined on the external network interface of the proxy server.
  • A Local Machine Address with no known route has been added to a packet filter.

RESOLUTION

If a default gateway does not exist on the external interface, add one in Control Panel, Network, Protocols, TCP/IP Protocol, Properties. Also use network addresses that have valid routes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Proxy Server version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
