The information in this article applies to:

  - Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2 for OS/2

SYMPTOMS

An attempt to upgrade a remote OS/2 SQL Server using Setup versions prior to version 4.2a results in the error:

   Unable to start SQL Server.

Attempting to perform a remote upgrade from version 4.2a or later Setup version results in the error:

Setup does not support remote upgrade.

CAUSE

WORKAROUND

A local upgrade can be done instead. Alternatively, the databases can be dumped, a remote install from scratch can be done, and the data can be re- loaded from backup.
