BUG: 6.5 Upgrade Requires Domain Login for SQLExecutive

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to SQL Server version 6.5, if the SQLExecutive startup account username is specified to be a valid domain account without appending user name to the domain name(domain\user), the upgrade may complete but the executive service will not be installed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
