INF: DB-Lib Apps Will Not Run on 3Com 3+Open Headless Servers

Last reviewed: April 28, 1997
Article ID: Q78214

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server Programmer's Toolkit, version 4.2

Applications that were compiled with the SQL Server DB-Libraries (DB-Libs) will not execute on 3Com 3+Open headless servers. An error message states that PMSHAPI.DLL cannot be located.

SQL Server DB-Libs are linked with OS2.LIB, which in turn links with PMSHAPI.DLL. Therefore, Presentation Manager (PM) must reside on the OS/2 machine that will run any DB-Lib application. 3Com's OEM version of OS/2 for its headless servers does not include the PM part of OS/2; thus, it does not allow DB-Lib applications to run on the server. This includes batch-oriented programs such as ISQL.
