XL: How to Determine How Many Pages Will Be Printed

SUMMARY

Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications does not provide a method to determine the total number of pages that will print in a worksheet. However, you can use the ExecuteExcel4Macro method to use the GET.DOCUMENT(50) macro sheet function to return the total number of pages that will be printed on the active worksheet.

To use the following macro you will need to set up the Microsoft Excel file.

  1. Create a new Microsoft Excel workbook.

  2. Select the range A1:J100.

  3. Enter the number 1 and press CTRL+ENTER. You should see all the selected cells filled with the number 1.

  4. Insert a Visual Basic macro module.

  5. Type the following code in the module:

          Sub ShowMe()
              MsgBox ExecuteExcel4Macro("GET.DOCUMENT(50)") & _
                  " pages will be printed."
          End Sub
    
    

  6. Run the macro.
