ACC: How to Embed a Bitmap Object in a Report at Run Time

This article provides a method for embedding a bitmap image in a report at run time using code. The example uses an image control to store the bitmap instead of an OLE object frame.

You can use Visual Basic for Applications code to embed an OLE object into a control on a form at run time. However, this method requires that you set the Enabled property of the control to Yes and the Locked property to No. In a report, OLE object controls do not have Enabled or Locked properties. However, bitmaps and other graphic images can be embedded in an image control on a report.

This article assumes that you are familiar with Visual Basic for Applications and with creating Microsoft Access applications using the programming tools provided with Microsoft Access. For more information about Visual Basic for Applications, please refer to your version of the "Building Applications with Microsoft Access" manual.

CAUTION: Following the steps in this example will modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and perform these steps on a copy of the database.

1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.

2. Open the Alphabetical List Of Products report in Design view.

3. Add an image control to the detail section of the report, and set its Name property to Image0.

   NOTE: The image control requires that you associate an image with it when you insert it in a form or report.

4. In the Insert Picture dialog box select any bitmap (.bmp) file, such as C:\Windows\Circles.bmp.

5. Set the OnFormat property of the detail section to the following event procedure:

         Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
            Me!Image0.Picture = "C:\Windows\Circles.bmp"
         End Sub
   
   

6. Save the report and open it in Print Preview to view the bitmap image.
