WD97: Selection Returns Question Marks Instead of Text

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Visual Basic for Applications Selection property to return selected text in a document, question marks appear instead of the expected characters.

CAUSE

The selected text contains text that has been formatted with a Symbol type font such as Symbol or WingDings.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word for Windows 97. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
